Before we kick-off, there are currently three new Xperia phones rumoured to be announced in Berlin at the end of August. As well as the X1, we’re expecting an Xperia XZ1 and return of a smaller model in the form of the Xperia XZ1 Compact.

Sony Xperia X1 release date

Sometimes with phones it can be hard to place or predict the release date, but it’s not a chore here. Since these phones are going to be announced at IFA 2017, Sony will introduce the Xperia X1 alongside it’s other new devices on 31 August at 1pm CET. We’ll be hosting a live stream of the press conference and will add a link here when it’s available. In terms of when the Xperia X1 will go on sale, that’s harder to predict the. However, it should be by the end of September. A tipster claims the Xperia XZ1 Compact will go on sale within 10 days of being announced so that could be the same with the X1.

Sony Xperia X1 price

The original Xperia X launched with a price tag of £459 which we felt was a bit high. Sony would be wise to launch the Xperia X1 at under £400, especially with phones like the OnePlus 5 and Honor 9 offering amazing value for money. However, we’ll have to wait and see if that’s the case and we’re not holding our breath on the Xperia X1 price.

Sony Xperia X1 specs

Going by the leaked specs for the Xperia X1, the phone won’t be overly different from the original which launched last year. It’s still going to have a 5in screen with a Full HD resolution but this time will have a newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor backed up by 4GB of RAM. Storage is unknown but will be at least 32GB to match its predecessor we imagine. Sadly it doesn’t seem like Sony is going to add any waterproofing credentials despite being known for this, but will increase the battery size to 2800mAh. There will also be a fingerprint scanner which we assume will still be built into the power button on the side. Android 7 Nougat is a dead cert but the camera tech is something of a mystery. The Xperia X has a 23Mp camera but Sony has pared back the resolution on its phones since so we could see anything between 13- and 21Mp.
