Release date and deals
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was released on 24 January 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC, and the whole game is playable on PlayStation VR too. You can also pick up the game together with all DLC in the newly announced Gold Edition, now available on all platforms. Resident Evil 7 was also the first major third-party game to be part of Microsoft’s Play Anywhere scheme, which means players who buy it for Xbox One can also play it for free on PC, and vice versa, with all of their save data seamlessly synced between the two.
What is gameplay like?

The game is a progression from Resident Evil 6, set in the modern day. The new game doesn’t feature the powerful, well-armed main characters previous Resident Evil games possessed, but is more survival-focussed. The game is set in a ‘ derelict plantation mansion in rural America‘, where you’ll have to explore and survive. After its E3 announcement, Sony released a demo titled Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour for PS4 players only. That demo has since been updated twice, and the final version, Resident Evil 7: Midnight, has added puzzles and areas to explore. The demo is also now available to PC players, and anyone with a PS VR headset.
In order to differentiate itself from current horror indie games, the game is also compatible with PS VR, allowing people with the PlayStation VR headset to use it and have a more immersive experience – frightening to say the least.
DLC and updates
Capcom confirmed a selection of downloadable content for Resident Evil 7 following the game’s launch, and with the recent arrival of End of Zoe, all DLC is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Banned Footage Vol. 1 launched on 31 January 2017 on PS4, and includes three main components: a locked room puzzle called ‘Bedroom’, a wave-based survival mode called ‘Nightmare’, and a new, more challenging game mode called ‘Ethan Must Die’. It costs £7.99 in the UK. Just a couple weeks later, 14 February 2017 (aka Valentine’s Day) brought with it Banned Footage Vol. 2, which includes another two sections of content (’21’ and ‘Daughters’) and a rather odd-sounding new game mode called ‘Jack’s 55th Birthday’, which tasks you with feeding Jack food against the clock. Yeah, we’re not sure either. That costs £11.99. Both volumes of Banned Footage arrived on PC and Xbox One on 21 February 2017, so not too long after the PS4, and cost the same. End of Zoe, the final story episode to be released, is also now available for £11.99/$14.99. End of Zoe somewhat obviously follows the fate of Zoe Baker after the events at the end of the game, and we’re guessing it doesn’t go too well for her. You can buy all three pieces of paid DLC through the season pass bundle however, which currently costs £24.99 on the PlayStation store, or in the game’s new Gold Edition, which includes the main game and all DLC. Finally, if you’re not looking to splash any cash on DLC, there is some good news. There’s one piece of free DLC, a story episode titled ‘Not A Hero’. Released on the same day as End of Zoe, it stars franchise favourite Chris Redfield, something we’d been expecting for a while, and picks up after the end of the main campaign. Become Redfield as he hunts down the still-at-large Ethan Baker, no doubt evading his tricks and traps along the way – plus there are some new monsters to boot.
