LG V20 UK release date: When is the LG V20 coming out?

LG V20 release date: 6 September (US launch), 7 September (Seoul launch), 14 September (pre-order), 23 September (on sale)

LG confirmed that it would on 6 September unveil the LG V20 in the US, and in Seoul on 7 September. The launch event took place at 6pm PT/9pm ET (2am in the UK) at Pier 27 at San Francisco’s Embarcadero. The LG V20 will go on sale in Korea by the end of September as the first phone to run Android Nougat out of the box. (Interestingly, that means it will launch before Google’s Nexus Sailfish and Marlin, which are now widely tipped to be the Pixel X and Pixel XL and launch on 4 October.) The company has not yet confirmed on sale dates in other markets, but says that information will be announced locally in the weeks to come. On Reddit a user who claims to have inside info has stated that pre-orders in the US will begin on 14 September (through T-Mobile), with the V20 going on sale 23 September. That matches the most recent rumours for the iPhone 7 on sale date. However, the date on the phone renders (often a giveaway of the on sale date) is actually 1 October 2016. It’s important to note that the LG V10 was not officially sold in the UK, and LG has not confirmed that its successor will make it over here either. LG V20 UK price: How much will the LG V20 cost?

LG V20 price: $650

It’s difficult to speculate on the V20’s price when the V10 never officially came to the UK, but the V10 in the US cost $700 SIM-free. This put it directly in line with other flagships, so in the UK it likely would have met a circa-£600 price point. The aforementioned Reddit user suggests the V20 will go on sale at $650, so in the UK we could see a lower price point of £500- to £550. We’ll update this article once LG has confirmed pricing.

LG V20 specifications and features

The V20 is a good-looking smartphone, built using a combination of aluminium at the rear and tough silicone polycarbonate at top and bottom to protect it from drops. It’s intended to be more durable than many phones of its class, and has passed the MIL-STD 810G Transit Drop Test that sees it repeatedly dropped from a height of 4ft. The V20 will come in ‘Titan’, silver or pink. Several details about the LG V20 were confirmed by the company ahead of the launch, so we already knew the LG V20 would be the first Android Nougat phone, and that it would have a stellar audio experience shipping with a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC and B&O earphones, plus feature Google’s new In Apps search function. In a US launch event last night LG confirmed the V20’s full specification. As suspected, the V20 is not – like the company’s LG G5 – a modular phone. However, the 3,200mAh battery is removable, which will please many users. It also supports Quick Charge 3.0 over USB-C. It’s powered by the flagship-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. There’s 64GB of storage, plus up to 2TB expansion possible through microSD.

As before two screens feature, with a secondary always-on screen sitting above the 5.7in Quad-HD (256×1440, 513ppi) IPS Quantum Display main panel to offer alerts and notifications at a glance. It’s brighter than on the V10 and has larger fonts, while notifications are expandable. There are two cameras at the rear, rated at 16Mp and 8Mp. The latter, in common with the 5Mp selfie camera, has a wide-angle lens that allows you to fit more in the shot (135- and 120-degree respectively). A hybrid autofocus combines laser- and phase-detection with contrast, making for sharp images in any condition. Steady Record 2.0 promises to offer crisp, clear video. As well as Android Nougat the V20 runs LG’s UX 5.0+ UI, an updated version of the software seen on the LG G5. It supports multi-window view among other features.
